Was scrolling through my old, abandoned Pinterest account looking for the most viewed pins (from approximately 700 views a month — what a misery 🤦♀️). One of them (except the other one that wasn`t created only pinned by me), was the DIY brick kitchen.
Funny, when I was building that kitchen, I did not have where to get the inspiration from, I just did what I always do — used what we had at home. At that time after we finished the construction, there were some bricks left. But I bought some extra, some King Size bricks, because we were running out of normal bricks. And the regular 102 mm (4 inch) wide took up too much space as walls of the cabinets.
I clicked on my pin, expecting to see similar ideas, but to my surprise there were just a couple of other brick kitchens, then a couple of outdoor brick kitchens, and brick backsplashes or separate brick elements but nothing like my DIY brick cabinets kitchen!
Curious, I Googled “DIY brick kitchen” and “DIY brick cabinets”, also without “DIY”, only to find. . . absolutely NOTHING new. Moreover, somehow I didn`t find my pin or at least the picture of my kitchen, which`s been hanging in my Gallery for a reasonable amount of time. I am probably. . . no, I am definitely a bad SEO manager or whatever those website geniuses are called.
So here I am, giving another chance for those few remaining pictures of my so much beLoved self-build kitchen to be noticed by the oh so overwhelmed with tons of information algorithms. And, maybe help someone decide for self made brick kitchen cabinets. And, maybe brag a bit about my hand made brick kitchen 🙄
I miss You, my beautiful Home. . .
Bare walls, a pre-bought for half price stove, and me — overflowing with joy and anticipation for the dream of our very own kitchen coming to life:
Three years after (same stove😉):
I could buy push-to-open drawer slides for this 60 cm (24 inch) kitchen drawer, but we already had some 60 cm (24 inch) drawer slides (bought 2 pairs of them on Facebook marketplace for a couple of bucks, because the owner hadn`t needed them anymore. One of the pairs I used in this project). Besides it is much cheaper to buy ordinary drawer slides and the push-to-open mechanism separately. I used the push-to-open latches also for the cabinet doors under this drawer.
*Tip: No handles on the drawers and cabinets makes it easier to clean them.

No hanging cabinets here — just open, airy space with zero risk of bumping our heads!
The same but tidy open shelves:
Some of the lower cabinets are also open, showcasing our most-used dishes. Worried about dust? No need — we’re constantly reaching for these plates, bowls, and pans, making it effortless to give the shelves a quick swipe now and then!
The lowest shelves are a game-changer — they slide out effortlessly, making it a breeze to grab whatever you need without the hassle!
And the old wire freezer baskets found new life in our DIY kitchen:

Can You believe these drawers are made of. . . cardboard?!
How to fully “incorporate” cardboard boxes into kitchen cabinets and actually fully functionally use them as drawers You can find here.
The DIY high cabinets above the sink with built-in spot lights are tucked into a niche so seamlessly, they blend in effortlessly — light, subtle, and almost invisible to the eye. And no bumped heads 😂. For those cabinets, the vertically challenged among us might need a trusty DIY step stool to reach the treasures within!

Oh, how I loved that view through the window — washing dishes or rinsing veggies felt like a serene escape, framed by nature’s beauty. . .
And all of this — our petite 8.75 m² (94 ft²) brick-and-wood DIY kitchen, crafted mostly from leftovers, fueled by an immense desire for a cozy home, and a dash of humble imagination. 🙂
